Summary: During a discussion with his family, Paddy tells them he wants to join the army after high school. He mostly says this to annoy his step-father, but his mother and sister are worried and don’t want him to unnecessarily risk his life. Much to their despair, Paddy decides to join the army. During the medical examination, Paddy learns that his blood type is B negative, which doesn’t match with his mother or his father. With this new knowledge, John is left questioning his life and who he really is.

Appeal: This hi-lo book should appeal to young adults due to its interesting plot twist. It’s a quick read and leaves readers thinking deeply about family connections and relationships.

Weakness: There are a few swear words which may upset some readers.
